Kinney Edith Booth Kinney, born September 25, 1921 in Portchester, NY, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at her home. She was predeceased by her husband Starr Kinney. She had two daughters, Starr Diane Hagstrom who predeceased her and Virginia Kinney, both of Bridgewater, CT. Edith was a long time resident of Bridgewater and served as the first woman elected to the Bridgewater Board of Education and served as chairman for many years. She was part of the committee that established the Shepaug Regional School District. Mrs. Kinney was also one of the founding members of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Bridgewater Fire Department. A member for many years of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Bridgewater, she was one of the first women elected to their Vestry and helped for many years as Superintendent of the Sunday School. Edith worked at the Bridgewater Post Office, retiring as Postmaster. In addition to her daughter Virginia, she is survived by three granddaughters: Jeanne Shanahan and her husband David of Yonkers, NY, Karen Burrows and her husband Stephen of Stratford, CT and Carol Wilbur of Bridgewater. Her great grandchildren are: William Shanahan and Melanie and Casey Wilbur. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 143, Bridgewater, CT 06752. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Bridgewater, Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM. There are no calling hours.
