James N. Smith

James Nichols Smith, of Bethel, CT died Friday, November 30, 2012 at Bethel Health Care Center.

James Smith was born June 25, 1933 in Bury, Lancashire, England and is the son of the late James Benjamin and Iris Smith and sister Eunice. James arrived in North America, accompanied by his wife Susan in 1957 with a high school education and training in engineering from the British Postal Service. He was able to convert that knowledge and experience into a long standing profession as a chief planning engineer for Verizon, formerly GTE-Stamford.

James is survived by his wife of 56 years: Susan Smith, four children: Sharan, Craig, Mark and Ian as well as eight grandchildren: Meghan, Samantha, Jessica, Chelsea, Kristen, Michael, Paige and Taylor.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the ALS foundation at 1275 K Street NW - Suite 1050 - Washington, DC 20005.
