Thomas J. (Tom) Ward, age 90, passed on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at his home in New Milford, CT. Tom was born January 14, 1934 in New Milford, the son of the late Robert D. Ward and Flora Thorpe Ward and brother to the late Robert Ward and Mary Butts Ward.
He attended the two room schoolhouse across the street from his family home at the intersection of Rt 7 and Rt 37 in New Milford. Tom served in the Air Force during the Korean War as a flight mechanic. He married Joyce Winnifred Smith on June 27, 1953. The were married for 66 years until Joyces passing in 2019.
Tom worked at the Nestle Company for 27 years leaving as the General Forman. In his semi-retirement he operated a livery service, driving countless local people to airports and locals up and down the east coast. He also enjoyed collecting and dealing antiques becoming an expert in New Milford (Wannopee) pottery.
Tom is survived by his daughter Winnie Joy Braid and her husband George, four sons, Jay and his wife Karen, James and his wife Jackie, Will and his wife Lara, and Tracy Ward, ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
He was a lifetime member of the International Order of Odd Fellows serving as Grand Lodge Secretary for numerous years as well as many other positions. Tom and Joyce were NY Giant season ticket holders and members of the NY Giants #1 tailgates club. The group charted a bus to every home game and Tom enjoyed being a cook at the tailgate.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 7 12-3 at the Odd Fellows Hall, 25 Danbury Road New Milford, CT.
